Crowns
Our crowns can be made of porcelain, gold or other metals. They form a "shell" that fits right over the tooth. Your dentist will usually recommend a crown where a tooth has been weakened by extensive decay, existing large fillings, a fracture or root treatment.
They are not recommended for purely cosmetic reasons. Crowns are not really an
"alternative" to fillings, inlays and veneers, as such - they are what
we use
to restore a tooth where a filling alone would be too weak. A crown holds
together the remaining tooth and filling material, making it stronger.
